Gilbride Version 2.0

Its Omaha! Then Omaha again!

Well those of members of the Giants nation that have been calling for Kevin Gilbride’s head have a reason to drink heavily tonight.  The spawn of his loins, Kevin Gilbride Jr., is joining the team as an offensive quality control coach.  KG Jr. was formerly working with the Temple Owls.

This follows the in house shuffling that took place after Chris Palmer retired for 4 minutes and then joined the UFL.  Mike Sullivan is now the QB coach and Sean Ryan has replaced Sullivan’s work the receivers.

Gilbride was never really in any danger since the Giants offensive was ranked 8th and has been an above average unit in his years as OC.  Though some of his decisions seem asinine – third and short bombs?! – the bottom line is that the offense has been good enough to win in all his years and Eli has improved under his watch.

Lets also figure in that sometimes things that seem dumb only seem so when they don’t work…the last drive of the SuperBowl in 2007, which culminated in the Plax touchdown, had the same play called three times in a row.  Only on the last attempt did the Pats play the cover 0 that the Giants expected which resulted in a touch.  The same play three times in a row?! When it works, no one questions anything.

Lets give these two a chance..with the defense hopefully improving, the offense won’t have to score every time they touch it.

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is ‘God is crying’. And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, ‘Probably because of something you did.’  – Jack Handy
