In a move that defies reason the Eagles have traded their most successful quarterback to division rival and perennial loser Washington Redskins. In return the Eagles got Washington’s 2nd rounder (37th overall) in the 2010 draft, a 4th rounder (that could upgrade to a 3rd rounder) in the 2011 draft, and 5 years off in January.
This fits an aggressive pattern by Eagles management of cutting popular but aging players after they have passed their prime but while they still might have a few years left in the tank. This includes Brian Dawkins, Brian Westbrook, Sheldon Brown, Troy Vincent, Jeremiah Trotter, Hugh Douglas, and Tra Thomas. Now some of these moves were wise but others seem just cruel. I thought Dawkins was as bad as it gets but this move is mind-boggling. Donovan holds most of the Eagles’s major passing records, has been to 6 pro-bowls (including last year), and 5 NFC championships. The latter is one of the major reasons Donovan has struggled to win over the Philly phaithful.
But I can’t wait to see how Philly responds with Kevin Kolb under center. I am guessing after he throws his 3rd pick, the Eagles will start chanting for Vick. And after Vick scrambles for negative 12 yards they will start chanting for Reid’s head. This is truly an insane move and Philly deserves it. They also deserve to lose 2 games every year for 5 years to Washington who is instantly better with this move. In my opinion the Skins are now the 3rd best team in the division after the Cowboys and Giants. Great work Philly.
